Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel and exploiting the staggered implementation of a compulsory schooling reform in West Germany, this article finds that an additional year of schooling lowers the probability of being very concerned about immigration to Germany by around six percentage points (20 percent). Furthermore, our findings imply significant spillovers from maternal education to immigration ...

The Wider Benefits of Adult Learning: Work-Related Training and Social Capital

This approach combines kernel matching with entropy balancing to account for selection bias and sorting on gains. Using data from the German SOEP,we evaluate the effect of work-related training, which represents the largest portion of adult education in OECD countries, ...

In individual Euro Area (EA) member countries, economic activity increases, mainly via the trade channel. Also, domestic credit and stock markets expand, highlighting the importance of the financial channel. However, the international repercussions are transitory and distributed ...

Central Business District of St. Petersburg 1869–2017: From a Market Economy to a Centrally Planned One and Back Again

The city center is at the core of urban and housing economics. Many models crucially depend on it. In a centrally planned economy, the spatial distribution of those amenities is determined by the central ...
