The Firms and Markets department analyzes the determinants of firms’ strategic behavior and its effects on competition, efficiency, and productivity. We particularly focus on studying the effectiveness of those policies that affect the functioning of markets such as regulations, consumer, competition, industrial, and innovation policies. We empirically test these insights by means of a variety of micro-econometric tools including structural econometric models, policy evaluation and panel methods, as well as semi- and non-parametric techniques.

Postdoc (f/m/div)
The Firms and Markets department of the DIW Berlin seeks a PhD economist to conduct innovative research and policy analysis in the areas of competition economics, industrial organization, and behavioral economics. A focus on empirical tools, especially the application of structural econometric models and/or policy evaluation techniques as well as machine learning methods is a necessary prerequisite. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to contribute substantially to academic research and policy analysis, including the ability to recognize and articulate differing viewpoints related to their work. Researchers at the department do not have any teaching obligations but are expected to contribute to the policy work of the department. Voluntary teaching opportunities exist at all levels.
The term of appointment is six years and it is a tenure track position. Payment is according to EG 14 TVöD Bund and ranges initially, depending on prior work experience, between 56.229,00 EUR and 65.046,00 EUR annually.
