Comment: Chris Poortman, Director of Global Programmes at Transparency International

Jeffrey Owens will present the OECD’s work on improving transparency and exchange of information and will set out elements of an international framework on how the problem can best be tackled. He will position these efforts in the broader context of OECD initiatives to promote a stronger, cleaner and fairer global economy. Chrik Poortman will comment from the perspective of an international NGO.

Jeffrey Owens is Director of the OECD’s Centre for Tax Policy and Administration and an internationally respected expert in public finance. He has made numerous contributions to professional journals, has published a number of books on public finance, has taught at Cambridge, the American University of Paris and was a visiting fellow at Bocconi University in Italy and Queen Mary’s College in London. He holds a PhD from Cambridge University.

Chris Poortman is Director of Global Programmes at Transparency International (TI).  He has 35 years of professional and managerial experience including a wide range of positions within the World Bank.  He began his career in 1972 as an economist at the Ministry of Finance and Planning in Swaziland, under the auspices of the United Nations Development Programme.  Chris Poortman holds a Master degree in Development and Macroeconomics, and a Bachelor's Degree in Macroeconomic Theory and Business Economics from the University of Groningen, Netherlands.
