German Socio-Economic Panel study
Dr. Mariel McKone Leonard is a researcher with more than ten years’ experience in mixed methods survey research. She specializes in research with small, rare, and vulnerable populations, as well as conducting research within sensitive contexts. Mariel is Project Coordinator for the Surveying Panel Participants’ Network Members: Integration of Egocentric Data Collection and Respondent-Driven Sampling. In addition to her work at SOEP, she leads survey projects for the Universities of Maryland (UMD) and Munich (LMU). Prior to joining DIW, Mariel was a researcher at the German Center for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM) where she supported the development of data collection structures which will allow the German public to measure and evaluate the effects of structural and individual racism. She received her doctorate at the University of Mannheim in 2020, before which she worked at Westat as a research assistant in the Telephone Research Center and the Instrument Design, Evaluation, and Analysis Services group.
