Abstract

As to framework as well as area and branches covered the here published 56 sector input-output table 1967 for the Federal Republic of Germany is completely in line with the tables at current prices previously elaborated by the German Institute of Economic Research for the years 1954, 1958, 1962, and 1966. It, though, differs as to data collection underlying its compilation. It has been for the year 1954 only and again for 1967 that the Federal Statistical Office provided a detailed statistical base for the intermediate part of the matrix. ln particular, the value and structure of goods inputs - gathered by questioning the different branches of the German economy - could be derived from it for sector numbers 4 through 43 respectively. To fit these dates into the framework of the table, though, further processing was necessary, just to mention: (1) imports, trade margins, transport as well as deliveries from the sector 44 (handicrafts and small scale industries) had to be deducted; (2) since the table represents market relationships, the goods inputs hat to be allocated to those sectors whose typical or non-typical output they are. Inputs and partly outputs of the sectors 1 to 3 and 44 to 56 had to be calculated from various other statistical sources or were estimated. Final demand and primary input components, at least in sum, completely agree with National Accounts figures. The table thus is made up from scratch and though a slight upward revision of GNP data can be expected, it quite well pictures the market relationships in the FRG at the end of the sixties.
